Images of Stone

Always fascinated with three-dimensional form, Joe began carving in wax for pewter castings but found it confining and rigid. Water-base clay and plaster now provide the fluidity to quickly capture the gesture and mood desired. Brian has found clay and metal to fit his style more comfortably.
The subject matter for both ranges from portraits and bas-relief to life-size sculptures and household items with religious or historical themes.
Joe especially enjoys portrait sculpting. He doesn’t just “make faces”, but strives instead to capture the uniqueness of the individual rather than just a likeness.
Brian finds the figurative pieces fit more to his style.
Both have completed numerous portrait commissions of children and well-known individuals. Their work is represented in Den Stone, Terra Cotta, Silver, Pewter and Bronze, and are in both public and private collections. What began as a hobby that both found to be relaxing grew through the years into an intricate part of their lives.
The artists are currently perfecting a new and exciting avenue of photographic sculpture combining photo emulsion and 3D medium with their son Bill, whose photography has captured the progress of their work over the years.
Bills photographs of man-made and natural wonders often over shadow his more subtle portraits of his parents at work.
